Indiana Jones & Encanto Attractions Announced for Disney World

Indiana Jones and the Madrigal family are set for new adventures in the upcoming land at Walt Disney World Resort’s Animal Kingdom park named Pueblo Esperanza. This new Tropical Americas-themed area spans 11 acres and will replace the Dinosaur USA section. However, the popular Dinosaur ride will stay open until construction starts this fall, with the new land scheduled to debut in 2027.

Disney Imagineering’s head, Bruce Vaughn, announced a brand-new Indiana Jones ride at Disney D23 2024. Unlike any Indiana Jones attraction seen before, this ride will feature an entirely new story. This will be the third Indiana Jones thrill ride at a Disney theme park and the first to open in Florida, which has hosted the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios since 1989.

The new journey revolves around the iconic archaeologist discovering a perfectly preserved Mayan temple. Rumors of a mythical creature within spur him to explore, bringing guests along for the adventure. Details remain under wraps, leaving fans to speculate about potential encounters, including whether they’ll face any of Indiana’s infamous snake challenges.

Animal Kingdom, already known for its sections devoted to Africa, Asia, and Pandora – The World of Avatar, will also feature the first-ever Encanto-themed ride within a Disney park. Set inside the magical Casa Madrigal, this new attraction will invite guests to explore a lush rainforest with Antonio, who has the ability to communicate with animals. Visitors might bump into various members of the Madrigal family during the ride.

Recently, Animal Kingdom has added various Encanto experiences at Florida parks, including the limited-time “Celebración Encanto!” sing-along show at EPCOT’s CommuniCore Plaza Stage. Additionally, the new Disney Starlight parade at Magic Kingdom will open in summer 2025, showcasing characters and floats inspired by beloved Disney films such as Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Frozen, Encanto, and more.

In another update, Animal Kingdom’s iconic Tree of Life in Discovery Park will introduce a new show based on Zootopia and its upcoming sequel Zootopia 2. Titled “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!”, this 3D show will replace “It’s Tough to Be a Bug!”. Guests will join Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and their anthropomorphic friends on a journey through the various biomes depicted in the film, starting next winter.

Disney World recently opened Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and a reimagined Country Bears Jamboree at Magic Kingdom. Alongside these, a new Disney Villains-themed land and two rides inspired by Pixar’s Cars have been announced. EPCOT is set to welcome a revamped Test Track in 2025. Disney’s Hollywood Studios also plans to begin construction next year on a Monsters, Inc. Land that will join the immensely popular Toy Story Land.

Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro made clear during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event that all these projects are in active development. “Imagineers are dreaming, creating, designing, and building these stories into real places,” D’Amaro stated. He emphasized that all announced plans are underway, including expansions at Disneyland Resort and new Spider-Man attractions slated for Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland.

Disney continues to innovate and expand its offerings, ensuring enduring magic and adventure for guests of all ages. With so many exciting developments on the horizon, Disney enthusiasts have much to look forward to in the coming years.
