Inter Milan drew 3-3 with Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday, but their coach, Simone Inzaghi, regretted that his team missed the opportunity to seal their spot in the round of 16. with two days to go.
Robin Gosens gave Inter a 3-2 lead in the 89th minute, but Robert Lewandowski equalized with a header in stoppage time and kept the Spanish team’s hopes of reaching the round of 16.
Group C leaders Bayern Munich have sealed their place in the next round, while Inter lead Barcelona by three points, and Viktoria Plzen are bottom after losing all four of their games.
“It’s a shame, for what we have created and for that last chance,” Inzaghi told reporters.
“With a victory we would have qualified for the next phase with two games to go, but we played two games with great solvency against Barcelona”.
“We played a great game, we wanted to rewrite Inter’s history. We could talk about an extraordinary feat with a victory if we had qualified, now we have to take the last step in front of our fans against Viktoria Plzen…”.
Inter host Plzen on October 26, before wrapping up their group campaign with a trip to Germany to take on Bayern early next month.
