An iPhone X for 349 euros: Aldi Talk, the cell phone discounter belonging to Medion, has temporarily added Apple’s 2017 flagship smartphone to its range. This is not a new product, but a “refurbished” device, as Medion clearly states.
The iPhones would be “completely dismantled”, checked, defective parts replaced and then reassembled, reset and cleaned. They should be free of damage and have at most small signs of use, such as “minimal scratches up to a maximum length of 0.5 mm”, as Medion explains. The provider promises a two-year guarantee.
iPhone X with 64 GB of storage space
Medion offers the iPhone X with 64 GB of storage space, according to the illustration it is the silver version. According to the provider, the original scope of delivery is included, including EarPods with a Lightning connector, a Lightning to mini jack adapter for connecting other headphones, a USB to Lightning cable and a USB power supply unit. Medion also packs a Qi charger. According to the description, the original iOS 11 operating system version is still installed, but the current iOS 15 can also be installed on the iPhone X.
Apple itself has not been running the model, which originally cost more than 1000 euros, for a long time, it was withdrawn from the program in September 2018, and then there was a sale of remaining stocks in stores.
The price of just under 350 euros is not bad, the iPhone X is sometimes offered for sale at eBay dealers for a higher price. However, remanufactured models of the device generation can sometimes be found in online stores for less than 350 euros – here it primarily depends on how cleanly the remanufacturing was carried out and which parts were replaced.
iPhone SE 2020 as an alternative
Prospective buyers should consider whether Apple’s iPhone SE 2 is not the better choice: The model introduced in 2020 is available in stores as a new product with a manufacturer’s guarantee, sometimes for around 400 to 450 euros. It is equipped with the younger A13 chip, which also works with central innovations in iOS 15 such as text recognition in photos (live text), which is not possible with the A11 in the iPhone X.
The iPhone X has a larger, better and higher resolution OLED display and a dual camera system with wide-angle and telephoto lens, the latter is missing from the iPhone SE 2. The iPhone X also scores with a more modern design and Face ID face recognition. If you often wear a mask, the old home button of the iPhone SE, in which the Touch ID fingerprint scanner is integrated, can also be an advantage.
