The NBA Suspends Ja Morant for Holding a Gun in New Video
The All-Star base Ja Morant, one of the young stars of the NBA, was separated this Sunday from the activities of the Memphis Grizzlies by another video in which he appears apparently holding a firearm. The NBA, which two months ago suspended Morant eight games for a similar incident, said it was investigating the new images.
“We are aware of the video in the social media involving Ja Morant,” the Grizzlies said in a statement. “He is suspended from all team activities pending review by the League. We have no further comment at this time,” the franchise said. It is already eliminated in the playoffs this season.
A Look at the Video
In the video, broadcast live on Instagram, the point guard is in the passenger seat of a car singing and dancing with a group of friends and, for a moment, he can be seen apparently carrying a gun in his left hand.
Morant in Trouble Again
The 23-year-old point guard was already suspended on March 15 for eight games after he was filmed carrying a gun and intoxicated in a nightclub near Denver (Colorado). In that case, the NBA investigation could not establish that the implicated weapon belonged to Morant or that the player had brought it to the nightclub. He then apologized and said that he entered a two-week counseling program to improve his stress management.
A Star Player with Controversies
The point guard, who averaged 26.2 points and 8.1 assists this season, is one of the most popular young figures in the NBA at the moment and his spectacular plays are usually among the most reproduced in summaries and social networks. But despite Morant’s talent, his controversies overshadow his accomplishments.
Conclusion
The Grizzlies, second seed in the Western Conference, were eliminated at the end of April in the first round of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers, who qualified in the playoffs. It is still unclear how long Ja Morant’s suspension will be, but it puts his future with the team in doubt.
