Jake Tapper Doubts White House Claim Biden Has More Stamina Than George Clooney

CNN Jake Tapper took a moment to digest the Biden campaign’s response that the president has more stamina than George Clooney.

On Wednesday, the Hollywood actor wrote an op-ed in The New York Times calling for Joe Biden to step away from the November race following his performance at the CNN debate against Donald Trump. In June, Clooney hosted a fundraising event for the president that brought in more than $28 million for his campaign.

In the piece, Clooney wrote, “The Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”

Democratic strategists, pundits, and a growing number of lawmakers have recently called on Biden to step aside before the DNC convention and allow another candidate to face Trump this November.

A campaign official responded to Clooney’s comments by telling CNN’s Kayla Tausche that Clooney left the event three hours before the president, suggesting Biden has more stamina than the Hollywood actor. Tapper reacted with confusion to the campaign’s response:

TAPPER: But what does that mean? That George Clooney left three hours before? What’s the point?

TAUSCHE: The point of that is to suggest that Biden’s stamina is better than Clooney’s. And Clooney didn’t have, you know, eyes on the entire event. That’s the response to the Clooney op-ed.
