The best value of the session in theNikkei 225wasAdvantest Corp. (TYO:6857), up 5.78%, 540.00 points, to 9.00 at the close. It is followed byTokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501), which advanced 5.52%, 27.00 points, to close at 516.00, andFurukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:5801), which rose 5.23%, 130.00 points, to dismiss the session at 2.00.
At the bottom of the index endedSekisui House, Ltd. (TYO:1928), which fell by 2.99%, or 74.50 points, to close at 2.00. Inpex Corp. (TYO:1605), meanwhile, cut 1.45%, 21.00 points, and closed at 1.00, whileSuzuki Motor Corp. (TYO:7269) fell 1.21%, 57.00 points, to 4.00.
The green numbers prevailed over the reds on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by a difference of 2566 versus 976, and 268 closed flat.
The shares of Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:5801) rose to a 52-week high, advancing 5.23%, or 130.00, to 2.00.
TheNikkei Volatility, which measures the volatility of Nikkei 225 options, fell 16.81% to 18.66.
Crude oil futures for January delivery rose 0.70%, 0.50, to $71.96 a barrel. As for other commodities, Brent oil futures for February delivery rose 0.67%, 0.51, to stay at $76.66 a barrel, while gold futures for February delivery rose 0.27%, 4.90, to $1.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY fell 0.31% to 136.23, while EUR/JPY was down 0.11% at 144.09.
The dollar index fell 0.20% to 104.55.
