Actor and musician Jeffrey Lynn Goldblum was born in the United States on October 22, 1952. He acted in some of the highest-grossing movies of his time, including the sequels to Jurassic Park (1993) and Independence Day (1996).

Jewish parents gave birth to Jeffrey Lynn Goldblum in West Homestead, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. His father, Harold Leonard Goldblum (April 25, 1920 – February 23, 1983), was a surgeon in the U.S. Army World War II. His mother, Shirley Jane Goldblum (Temeles; October 30, 1926 – January 9, 2012), was a radio announcer who later owned a kitchen equipment and appliances sales company. His ancestors hail from Starobin and Zolochiv in Russia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, respectively. Pamela is his sister, and Lee is his older brother. Rick, his other brother, passed away in 1971 at 23 while travelling in Morocco after contracting dysentery, which caused kidney failure. Goldblum has called Rick a “sort of hero of mine.”

Goldblum participated in a bar mitzvah ceremony in his youth and went to an Orthodox synagogue. His parents taught him to believe in Santa Claus, and his family celebrates Christmas. His parents were in the entertainment industry. Before opting to pursue medical education, his father almost pursued a career in acting. He later rose to the position of chairman of medicine at a Pittsburgh hospital. At 17, Goldblum relocated to New York City to pursue his acting career. Under the direction of renowned acting coach Sanford Meisner, he performed on stage and pursued acting studies at the illustrious Neighborhood Playhouse.
