Jodie Whittaker dejará Doctor Who junto al showrunner Chris Chibnall, who has directed the series since Whittaker took on the role as Thirteenth Doctor.
Both will be leaving the series next year, following a trio of special episodes that will air in fall 2022., informs The Hollywood Reporter. The BBC describes the ending as an “epic special.”

We knew we wanted to surf this wave side by side, and pass the baton together. So here we are, weeks away from finishing the best job I’ve ever had. I think I will never be able to express what this role has given me. I’ll take the Doctor and the lessons I’ve learned forever“.

The Whittaker and Chibnall march is also joined by executive producer Matt Strevens., who has also worked on the series since Whittaker’s debut in the episode The Woman Who Fell to Earth.
Together, Whittaker and Chibnall will have completed three seasons of the series. That’s been the norm for all Doctor Who performers: Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi completed three seasons each, while David Tennant did three seasons and a series of specials. However, Chibnall will be the series director with the shortest time on duty; Russell T. Davies held the position for the first four seasons, while Steven Moffat directed the series from the fifth to the tenth. With this in mind, it’s no wonder recent rumors that Jodie Whittaker was leaving the show after these three seasons.
Before that end, we will have Serie 13, which will be a unique story told throughout an entire season. In it, a new companion will enter the TARDIS (Dan, by John Bishop), as well as Yaz, an old friend of the Doctor. And then it will be time to place bets on who the new Doctor Who will be.
