Met Gala 2023 celebrates Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy
The 2023 Met Gala was a celebration of the life and artistic contributions of German designer Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2019. Lagerfeld is considered to be one of the most important designers of the second part of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, making his name as the designer of Chanel.
Under Lagerfeld’s tutelage, Chanel was restored to its original splendor, and new audiences were reached through forays into other worlds, such as designing all of Madonna’s outfits for her Re-Invention Tour in 2004.
Impressive Looks
Many guests arrived wearing suits designed by Lagerfeld himself, including Nicole Kidman, who wore the dress she had worn in a Chanel commercial in 2005. Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen also wore a dress that Lagerfeld had made especially for her.
Other notable guests who wore Lagerfeld’s designs included Penélope Cruz, Cara Delevingne, Anne Hathaway, Kim Kardashian, Serena Williams, Maluma, Romeo and Nicola Beckham, Florence Pugh, Halle Bailey, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Salma Hayek, and Emily Blunt.
Creative Surprises
Among the most surprising moments were two performances by Choupette, Lagerfeld’s cat. However, Choupette was absent from the event, leaving attendees disappointed.
Other notable moments included a surprise performance by Jared Leto and Doja Cat, and a matching outfit from Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner with a touch of sarcasm. Bad Bunny evoked a wedding dress, while Jenner had a look reminiscent of a tuxedo.
The 2023 Met Gala proved to be a resounding success, with attendees celebrating the legacy of Karl Lagerfeld through impressive looks and creative surprises.
