RB Leipzig took a big step towards the Champions League round of 16 by beating Real Madrid 3-2 at home on Tuesday, thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol, Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner.

The German team is second in Group F, with nine points, one less than leaders Real Madrid and three more than Shakhtar Donetsk, whom they will face in their last group game next week, with the need to tie to secure a place in the top two.

With Real Madrid already qualified for the round of 16, manager Carlo Ancelotti rested several starters, leaving his team dominated from the start by Leipzig’s young squad.
