Lil Peep: The Hip Hop Promise Who Died Soon at Age 21

Born in Pennsylvania on the first of November of 1996, Gustav Elijah Åhr A.K.A Lil Peep, was one of the greatest promises and icons of the “emo rap of our times, generating an interesting revival of the genre among teenagers and taking up many of the elements of this sub-culture.

However, after lifting the movement of rappers coming from Soundcloud and forging a new stage for all the new promises in this genre, Lil Peep passed away at the very young age of 21.

Making herself known thanks to her relationship with Ghostemane and JGRXXN, who practically rescued him from a homeless lifestyle in Los Angeles by adopting him and letting him sleep in his studio, Lil Peep took his first steps as a backing vocalist for one of them and, eventually, solo with his first mixtape entitled ‘Lil Peep; Part One.

After having released his first material on Soundcloud and having obtained 4,000 plays in just one week, Peep decided to continue producing, and by the time he decided to share his first EP entitled ‘Feelz‘, he was already a sensation on the platform, so this second material had a gigantic reception by users, and opened doors for him to become an internet phenomenon with ‘Live Forever’.

In addition to success on virtual platforms, Lil Peep became an artist to the full extent of the world when in 2017 and 2018 he released ‘Come Over When You’re Sober’PT. I and PT.II.

When did Lil Peep die?

On the afternoon of November 15, 2017, Lil Peep’s body was found dead by his manager on the tour bus after ingesting a high dose of Xanax and fentanyl.

While close friends of the artist continue to advocate that the artist’s death was not a simple overdose, videos on social media of Peep show that he spent hours consuming Xanax, fentanyl, opioids, hydrocodone, oxycodone, and oxymorphone in addition to cocaine.

As the forensic report issued on December 8 by the medical examiner office in Pima County showed, Gustav Elijah Åhr died of an overdose, yes, but not necessarily as a result of all the substances he ingested; only one wreaked lethal havoc on his body and that was fentanyl.

Fentanyl is a synthetic narcotic that exists within the category of opioids, which is normally used as anesthesia prior to regular operations.

As many already know, there are anesthetics that can be fatal for some people. The reason? The effect, without the need for an overdose, can lower the heart rate to a dangerous point from which there is no turning back.
