High Levels of Particulate Matter Pollution Detected in Southern California
According to ‘IQAir’ and ‘Purple Air’, which measure particulate matter pollution (PM2.5), they showed readings of 100 parts per million or more in downtown Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, the San Gabriel, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.

Measurements by the South Coast Air Quality Management District showed air quality slightly better in the early afternoon. PM2.5 readings between 101 and 150 are considered “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
People with heart or lung disease, older adults, children, and people with diabetes are advised to avoid prolonged or strenuous exertion outdoors in the coming days.
California Cities Have Worst Pollution in the Nation
Despite seeing improvements in air quality over the past three decades, many California cities, including Los Angeles, have the worst pollution in the nation, according to the American Lung Association’s annual State of the Air report.
Thunderstorms Expected in Southern California
In addition, the forecast for this week shows the effects of monsoonal moisture in the coming days and this will bring the possibility of some thunderstorms with a greater impact in mountainous areas. Amazonian humidity is not expected to affect the Los Angeles area.
