Apple has announced important bug fixes for macOS 12.1. The first major update for macOS Monterey removes particular problems that affect users of Apple’s notebooks. After installing the operating system upgrade, several users complained about an unreliable trackpad, especially the “click by tap” function no longer seemed to work reliably – a significant drawback in everyday use.

It could happen that “the trackpad no longer reacts to clicks or taps,” notes Apple in the package insert for the latest beta version of macOS 12.1, the update eliminates the error.

According to the manufacturer, macOS 12.1 also fixes a possibly very annoying MagSafe charging error in the new 16 “MacBook Pros Affected users reported: If the battery runs empty and thus leads to the MacBook being switched off, you can only charge it with other power supplies or via USB-C – provided you have the necessary cables at hand.

The power supply for MacBooks – Pro and Air – from an external screen via Thunderbolt or USB-C should also work reliably again after the upcoming macOS update.

Especially for the 2021 MacBook Pros, Apple also provides two more important bug fixes: The HDR playback of YouTube videos should no longer lead to a complete crash in the form of a kernel panic. A notch bug has also been fixed: Menu bar extras can no longer be covered, writes Apple. No mention is made of other bugs related to failed initial backups with Time Machine and problems with the SD card slot in the new MacBook Pros.
