The Search for Madeleine McCann Continues
Last May 3 marked the sixteenth anniversary of the terrible disappearance of little Madeleine McCann. She lost track of her while she was sleeping in a tourist apartment in Praia da Luz, in the Portuguese Algarve, where she was spending a few days on vacation with to his parents.
Despite the numerous investigations carried out and the clues collected over the years, the case has not been solved, but it has not been forgotten either. The parents of Madeleine McCann continue to search for their daughter.
New Hope for Finding Madeleine
With the main suspect in her disappearance, Christian Brueckner, serving a sentence in Germany, the German police in collaboration with the British have reopened the search for the unforgettable Maddie in a Portuguese reservoir of Arade nine years after his latest investigation.
This dam is located 40 minutes by car from Praia da Luz, and which he himself came to call his “little paradise”. The area is cordoned off and fully guarded to prevent the presence of onlookers.
The agents, among whom are several divers specialized in this type of search, as well as a large array of high-tech equipment for detecting human remains buried underground or underwater, they hope to find some clue that will lead them to the mysterious whereabouts of the little girl, who today would be 20 years old.
Past Searches for Madeleine
This is not the first time she has been searched for in this dam. In 2008, Portuguese lawyer Marcos Aragao Correia paid specialist divers to search the area after he claimed to have been informed by criminal contacts that Madeleine’s body was in the reservoir. The last search carried out in Portugal was in 2014 when British police were granted permission to search the bushes near the place where she disappeared.
Parents Continue the Search
Earlier this month, Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, held a vigil to commemorate the 16th anniversary of her disappearance. They also celebrated her daughter’s 20th birthday in May and vowed to “never give up” on finding her daughter.
“Happy birthday Madeleine. Still missing. Still greatly missed. Still wanted. For as long as it takes,” they said in a post on the Find Madeleine campaign’s official Facebook page.
“We love you and we are waiting for you. We will never give up.”
