Marvel’s Avengers performance has been in question pretty much since its launch, but now Square Enix has officially admitted it. Shortly after Crystal Dynamics removed the experience accelerators from the sale, in response to community complaints, the president of the Japanese company, Yosuke Matsuda, has referred to the situation of the video game of The Avengers and has described it as “disappointing”.
Marvel’s Avengers “was an ambitious title for us because we entered the game-as-a-service model,” explained the manager. “We face a variety of unexpected problems in the final phase of development, which included the need to commute to work from home due to the pandemic ”. Matsuda has pointed out that they were able to emerge victorious from those challenges, “but this unfortunately” has not translated into the “success” they would have wanted.
What is the vision for the future?
With the experience in hand and the problems derived from the chosen model, the head of Square Enix assures that in the future they intend to “select game designs that fit the characteristics and tastes” of their studios and development teams. “Although the new challenge we took on with this title has produced a disappointing resultWe are confident that the game-as-a-service model will grow in importance as video games become more service-oriented ”. He adds: “How we create new experiences and incorporate this trend into our game designs is a key question that we will have to answer from now on.”
Marvel’s Avengers is currently available at PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC y Google Stadia. The future of the game involves new content and improvements, at least that is what Crystal Dynamics assures, which remains committed to offering the best possible game.
