Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy explores how the group of outlaws have come to life at the hands of their creators, Eidos-Montréal. During a new trailer, which you can see under this paragraph, the team shares what has been the creative process behind Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Groot and Drax.

Bruno Gauthier-Leblanc, art director at the studio, explains that when designing them it was key that they were “faithful to the history” they have built, and that at the same time the fans of the license “could know them at the moment”.

“To create the renewed visual aspect of this dysfunctional but fun family, we were inspired by the marvel comics and in the background that we create for them ”, explains Leblanc in a press release. “So each Guardian has a very specific design that also has its impact on the gameplay of the title itself.”

Star-Lord, for example, features an outfit that features some tributes to the 80s and his childhood, like his favorite band. Gamora, for example, had her inspiration in the comics to trace her black and white costume, to which she later added details that would deepen her background.
