The future of the Mass Effect series as a media franchise is inevitable in the audiovisual world, has opined Mac Walters, creative director and writer on the BioWare saga. A eventual movie or television series of said universe, regardless of whether it is a direct translation of videogames or not, they are a matter of time. In statements to Business Insider, the manager declares that they have already received interest from Hollywood.
“It is a very wide world, and many people I know in the television and film industry have asked me when we are going to do it and they say we have to do it,” he begins by saying about it. In fact, it asserts and assumes that “It is not a question of whether [sucederá dicha adaptación], but when ”.
Mac Walters prefers a Mass Effect TV series to a movie
“It felt like we were always fighting IP,” reflects Walters. “What story are we going to tell in 90 or 120 minutes? Are we going to do him justice? The creative complexities, screenplay adaptation, and other consequential challenges of bringing the Mass Effect universe to the world of film or television are one of the obstacles that have prevented this wish from already happening. Since VGC recall that Warner Bros. ‘Legendary Pictures He was working on a Mass Effect movie back in 2010; however, it did not materialize.
On the other hand, actor Henry Cavill set off alarms at the beginning of the year with a possible Mass Effect project in live-action. Electronic Arts neither confirmed nor denied this possibility; neither does BioWare.
Mac Walters considers, from his point of view, that a TV series fits more with the Mass Effect universe than a movie. “If you’re going to tell a story as thick as ‘Mass Effect,’ television is the way to do it. There is a natural way that fits with the content of an episodic nature ”, he explains convinced.
The creative relates that, when they created Mass Effect, they had a backbone on which they were building everything; where each level or main mission would be equivalent to its own episode in that television series. “Long storytelling is a suitable place for video game franchises”, He ends, pointing to the television series, whose space allows a slower and more elaborate advance structure.
BioWare is working on a new Mass Effect video game. The next appointment of EA users is the EA Play Live of this July 22; we do not know if we will see this or other BioWare projects, such as Dragon Age, at the event.
