Maya Rudolph is a well-known American actress, comedian, and singer born July 27, 1972. She joined the Saturday Night Live (SNL) ensemble in 2000 and went on to have supporting roles in the movies 50 First Dates, A Prairie Home Companion, and Idiocracy.

Rudolph was born to singer Minnie Riperton and composer Richard Rudolph on July 27, 1972, in Gainesville, Florida. Her father’s name is Ashkenazi Jewish, and her mother is African-American. Sidney Rudolph, a philanthropist who formerly owned every Wendy’s and Rudy’s restaurant in Miami-Dade County, Florida, was her paternal grandfather. Her great-grandfather was one of the original cast members of Congregation Beth Shalom, a Conservative Jewish synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Squirrel Hill neighbourhood. He was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, and changed his last name from “Rudashevsky” to “Rudolph.” Teena Marie, an R&B artist, served as Rudolph’s patron.

Rudolph and her brother Marc relocated to Los Angeles, California, with their parents when they were very young, and they spent most of their childhood years in the Westwood district. In the song “Lovin’ You,” near the end, Riperton repeats “Maya,” which was a part of her performance on The Midnight Special. Two weeks before Maya turned seven, on July 12, 1979, her mother, 31, passed away from breast cancer. Rudolph graduated in 1990 from Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California, where she made friends with Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow.
