Merkel says she is “shocked” by deadly floods in Germany

Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday she was “shocked” by the devastation caused by the floods in western Germany, which so far have claimed the lives of 19 people.

“I am shocked by the catastrophe that so many people have to endure in the flooded areas. My condolences to the families of the dead and missing. I thank the many tireless helpers and emergency services from the bottom of my heart”, he pointed Merkel in a statement published by her spokesperson, Steffen Seibert, on her official Twitter page.
