Mexico’s Energy Secretary Rocio Nahle said on Thursday that refineries at Mexico’s state-owned Pemex are expected to reach a combined processing of 1.2 million barrels per day (bpd) this year from 922,000 bpd today.
She said that level will be reached by the six active local refineries in addition to Deer Park, Texas.
“The commitment is to process 1.2 million bpd this year,” he said, specifying that when the Olmec refinery, inaugurated in July heavy despite still being under construction, comes into operation, energy “self-sufficiency” will be reached in 2024.
