The Flash: Michael Shannon Defends Ezra Miller
The Flash will bring back Michael Keaton as Batman, whom he hasn’t played for more than 30 years, and we will also see Michael Shannon return as General Zod, villain of “The Man of Steel” (55%), a film that was released 10 years ago. Recently, Michael Shannon, the actor of “The Shape of Water” (92%), spoke on one of The Flash’s most controversial issues, the accusations against the film’s star Ezra Miller.
Ezra Miller’s Controversies
Miller, who identifies as non-binary, has played Barry Allen/The Flash since a brief cameo in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (27%), then appeared in another cameo in “Suicide Squad” (25%), and in “Justice League” had a prominent role. Unfortunately, this trajectory in the franchise has been marred by the attack on a woman, the cases of violence in Hawaii, and more serious accusations against Miller in the last two years.
One of Miller’s best-known controversies was a video that went viral in 2020, where he grabbed a woman by the neck and threw her to the ground in a bar in Iceland. The video drew criticism and calls for Miller to be fired from his role in the DC universe. However, Warner Bros. Pictures remained silent. That was only the tip of the iceberg of what would come later, since it was even said that in Ezra’s house he was hiding a family with young children, who were at risk.
Michael Shannon’s Defense of Ezra Miller
Although Ethan Miller has been labeled as a controversial figure, some of The Flash cast and crew are coming to Miller’s defense. Michael Shannon is the latest to do so. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Shannon spoke up in defense of Miller, saying “If you’re talking about Ezra [Miller], I think Ezra was lovely, very nice to me when I was there. It’s hard to talk about, but I always give people in this business a lot of slack, because there are a lot of people in this business who have problems. And some people have more privacy than others. Anytime someone is in the spotlight getting picked on, I feel sorry for them. Even if it’s justified, it’s still a horrible situation.”
The Critical Reception of The Flash
The Flash is already receiving praise from critics on social media. Many have praised the direction, Ezra Miller’s performance as Barry Allen/The Flash, and the overall narrative. They have also highlighted the inclusion of several iconic characters from the DC Comics universe, such as Michael Keaton’s Batman and Sasha Calle’s debut as Supergirl. According to the comments, the film has an exciting and moving plot, impressive action sequences, and a memorable soundtrack.
