Mick Jagger’s girlfriend Melanie Hamrick does not mind their 44-year gap

Mick Jagger’s girlfriend is confronting the scrutiny surrounding their significant age difference. Melanie Hamrick, 37, recently shared her perspective in an interview with The Sunday Times regarding her relationship with the 81-year-old Rolling Stones frontman, with whom she has a child.

“I don’t think about it,” Hamrick stated when discussing their 44-year age gap. “Everyone’s going to have their opinion. If you think about others’ opinions, no matter where you are in life, you’re going to have a problem and you’re going to (analyze) it.”

She emphasized the importance of focusing on her own happiness, saying, “I put the blinders on. Am I happy? Yes. Are the people in my life happy? Yes. Am I hurting anyone? No. OK, they can mind their own business.”

Melanie Hamrick is not just known for her relationship with Jagger; she is also an accomplished author and former ballerina. Her debut novel, “First Position,” was published last year. The couple began dating in 2014 after meeting at a Rolling Stones concert in Tokyo. At the time, Hamrick was only 26 and didn’t experience the starstruck feeling that many might expect.

“Ballet dancers meet some of the biggest stars and act, like, ‘Who are you?'” she remarked. “Because, to us, ballet dancers are the gods. That’s who you study and look up to. You’re so in your world.”

Hamrick and Jagger welcomed their first child together, a son named Deveraux, in 2016. She shared her excitement about motherhood on Instagram, posting, “I’m so in love with my baby Deveraux Jagger 💙,” a testament to her joy in their family life.

In 2019, Hamrick retired from American Ballet Theatre, acknowledging the challenge of balancing her career with motherhood. “The schedule of A.B.T. is great, but it’s hard when you have a child and the life I have now,” she reflected. “I feel like superwoman some days, and other days I feel like I’m head above water just phoning in being a dancer — coming to rehearsal and not being my best. That’s not fair. I love it. But sometimes my head is not there. And I’ve done enough ‘Swan Lakes.’ It’s OK.”

During a 2022 appearance on the “Today” show, Hamrick expressed her commitment to supporting Jagger’s pursuits while also asserting her individuality. “We are both very supportive of each other’s ventures and work,” she said. “I’m not just someone’s partner.”

Jagger’s romantic history is also notable, as he previously dated fashion designer L’Wren Scott from 2001 until her tragic passing in 2014. In addition to Hamrick’s son Deveraux, Jagger has seven other children from previous relationships, highlighting a complex family dynamic.

Ultimately, Hamrick’s attitude towards public opinion reveals her determination to prioritize what truly matters in her life — happiness and fulfillment both personally and in her relationship with Jagger.
