Mini forum EliteMini HX90: Mini PC with AMD Ryzen eight-core

Minisforum has presented its first own Mini-PC with a processor from AMD’s Ryzen 5000H series. The EliteMini HX90 uses one of the fastest mobile CPUs, the Ryzen 9 5900HX. The model has eight CPU cores, can handle simultaneous multithreading for 16 threads, reaches clock frequencies of up to 4.6 GHz and has an integrated Radeon Vega graphics unit with 512 shader cores (max. 2100 MHz).

Unlike many other mini PCs, the Ryzen 9 5900HX runs with a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 45 and not 15 watts. Minisforum installs a small CPU cooler whose axial fan draws in fresh air through openings in the housing. Liquid metal between the processor and the cooler improves the heat transfer.

The mainboard also has slots for two SO-DIMMs (maximum 64 GB DDR4-3200) and an M.2 SSD (PCI Express 3.0 x4). The manufacturer pre-installs Intel’s AX200 Wi-Fi 6 module. Two 2.5-inch drives with a maximum height of 7 mm can also be accommodated under the circuit board.

On the connection side, there are six USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 GBit / s, previously called USB 3.0), including a Type-C connection, and 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet. Four Ultra HD monitors (3840 × 2160 pixels) can each be operated with two HDMI 2.0 connections and DisplayPorts 1.2 at 60 Hertz. The case measures 195 mm × 190 mm × 60 mm, has a volume of 2.2 liters and weighs a good 1.2 kg.

The barebone version of the EliteMini HX90 without SSD and RAM costs around 730 US dollars as standard, Minisforum is currently taking pre-orders for $ 630. Excluding taxes, that equates to 530 euros. Shipping from Hong Kong is free, but import sales tax of 19 percent is due for imports. Delivery is scheduled to begin in mid-September 2021.
