While struggling to recover his image, Johnny Depp returns to add new jobs on the big screen. In this opportunity, we will tell you what are some of the movie roles that he was frustrated with due to the accusations that he received from Amber Heard and the controversy that both have starred in for years. Do not miss the details.

Johnny Depp and the controversy with the Fantastic Beasts saga

When in 2015 it was announced that the Harry Potter film universe would expand and that a new saga of films inspired by the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was on the way, it was also learned that those responsible for this project were betting heavily on it.

It is for this reason that it was decided to hire some of the strongest names in the industry, such as Johnny Depp, an actor with a renowned career and a guarantee of box office success.

In the first two installments of the saga, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the protagonist of hits such as Young Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory played Gellert Grindelwald, dark wizard and villain of the history.

With the character already secured for future installments, the idea was for Depp to remain in this role. However, by the premiere of this second film the controversy between him and Amber Heard had broken out, and since then the accusations he received for gender-based violence caused many in the industry to “cancel” him.

Towards the end of 2020, the 58-year-old American reported that Warner Bros. had asked him to resign from the project and that for this reason, he was no longer part of the saga. In the third and most recent of the films, his character is still standing but now he is played by Mads Mikkelsen, an actor who has just stood out for his work in Another Round, by Thomas Vinterberg.

Pirates of the Caribbean: another of the projects that were frustrating for Johnny Depp

If there is a character for which Johnny Depp is known by millions of people around the world, that is Jack Sparrow, the eccentric and charismatic protagonist of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga.

Some with greater success than others, the truth is that Depp put himself in the shoes of this pirate in a total of 5 films. As far as is known, there was a sixth on the way but Disney, the company in charge of its realization, backed out at the last minute.

According to what Depp’s agent said during one of the trial sessions starring him and Heard, the actor had already arranged a contract for about 22.5 million dollars. However, it was around that time that the accusations against him entered the center of the scene, so this project finally came to nothing.
