EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video is gearing up to expand its lineup by developing a new spinoff from its popular series Reacher. According to sources, the spinoff is fast-tracked and poised for a greenlight.
Titled Neagley, the new show will focus on Maria Sten’s character, Frances Neagley, who is a corporate security professional and former military colleague of Jack Reacher, played by Alan Ritchson. Neagley was introduced in Season 1 of Reacher and played a significant role in Season 2.
Nick Santora, the executive producer and showrunner of Reacher, will team up with Nicholas Wootton to develop and run Neagley. Santora and Wootton previously worked together on Prison Break. Like its predecessor, the spinoff will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Skydance Television, and CBS Studios.
Besides Santora and Wootton, the series will have Lee Child, Don Granger, and Lisa Kussner as executive producers. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell will produce for Skydance Television. Oversight for the project from Skydance will be managed by Carolyn Harris, Kenny Madrid, and Niko Fernandez. Representatives from Prime Video and the production studios have yet to comment on the development.
Frances Neagley became a fan favorite in Reacher Season 1, though she didn’t appear in the original book, The Killing Floor. Her character took on a more prominent role in Season 2, based on Lee Child’s novel, Bad Luck and Trouble. Neagley served as a crucial sidekick to Jack Reacher, contributing to the strong on-screen chemistry between the characters.
The dynamic duo of Reacher and Neagley has become so beloved that even though Neagley doesn’t appear in the book Persuader—on which Season 3 is based—Prime Video has confirmed that Maria Sten will return to reprise her role alongside Ritchson.
In Season 3, which was greenlit last December before the premiere of Season 2, Jack Reacher takes on an undercover mission to rescue an informant held by an old enemy. Reacher Season 2 was a huge hit, becoming the top title on Prime Video worldwide during its premiere weekend.
With the introduction of Neagley, Reacher is set to join Prime Video’s growing list of successful franchises. The Boys, another flagship drama, has already spawned several spinoffs. The streaming service has also ordered a prequel to Terminal List and explored a Jack Ryan spinoff.
Skydance Television, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, has several projects lined up for Prime Video. Besides Reacher and Jack Ryan, they are working on the upcoming series Cross and the newly announced The Runarounds, starring Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham. They are also producing a docuseries on the Idaho Murders.
