The state of New York (USA) declared this Friday (29.07.2022) an emergency due to the increase in cases of monkeypox during the last days, mainly concentrated in New York City.

According to the emergency declaration signed by the governor, Democrat Kathy Hochul, the state already has 1,400 cases. The emergency declaration authorizes state agencies to allocate funds and resources to help localities fight this disease.

In mid-July, New York activated a monkeypox cell phone information system by texting MONKEYPOX or MONKEYPOXESP to a local phone number (81336). The messages include information about the symptoms and transmission of the disease and about the guidelines for action after having had exposure.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States has determined that the JYNNEOS vaccine, specific to this disease, is offered as a priority to all risk groups.

These include people who have had close physical contact with someone with the infection, who have had an infected sexual partner, or who have had sex at a location where an outbreak of monkeypox has been identified.
