The presidium of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament wants to punish verbal abuses by members of the Internet in the future. “We are currently experiencing a new trend that interjections are shifting to the Internet. Then tweets are made from the plenary during the session. Then there is a reaction that is carried back into parliament from the social media area,” said State Parliament President André Kuper (CDU ) of the Düsseldorf “Rheinische Post”.

Kuper relies on an expert opinion by the administrative scientist Wolfgang Zeh. Order measures such as a call to order can therefore be imposed if MPs comment on subjects of the parliamentary debate “in a way that would justify order measures if the same statement were made in the state parliament”.
