The Japanese volcano Suwanosejima has erupted this Wednesday spitting lava and expelling a huge column of ash.
The explosive activity is still continuing this Thursday. In addition, the Tokyo Volcanic Ash Advisory Center warned of a volcanic ash plume that rose to an estimated altitude of 2,400 meters.
The Suwanosejima volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and has been in a state of almost continuous strombolian-type eruption since 1949. Suwanosejima is a volcanic island, eight kilometers long, in the north of the Ryukyu Islands, Japan, where about 50 residents live.
