The electric cars Peugeot e-208 and Peugeot e-2008, which have been on the market since the end of 2019, have been given a little more range thanks to some technical changes based on their otherwise unchanged e-car architecture.
Technically almost unchanged
The technical basis of both electric cars, called eCMP in the Stellantis Group, like “Common Modular Platform”, uses a water-cooled battery with 50 kWh (47 kWh net) and a 100 kW electric motor with a torque of 260 Nm. Nothing has changed in these key figures. There should be more range through lower consumption.
A changed translation in the transmission and its “mechanical further development”, which is not described in detail, is now supposed to save energy. In addition, Peugeot mounts on the 16-inch alloy rims of the Peugeot e-208 and those of the Peugeot e-2008 with 17-inch rims with efficiency class A +. Both measures are intended to help reduce rolling resistance and thus consumption.
Moisture sensor for the windshield
A new heat pump in combination with a moisture sensor for the windshield serves the same purpose, as the information from the sensor enables more precise control of the circulating air in the interior. The more targeted use of heating energy as a result relieves the battery, especially at low outside temperatures.
It is to be hoped that this will improve the function of the windshield heating; our test in December 2020 confirmed a certain weakness in any case: “The typical ventilation assignments (windshield, legs, etc.) cannot be used in winter because then all the windshields 10 km steams up, which can only be solved with the de-icing button or switching to automatic “, wrote my colleague Christoph at the time.
Group models will follow
In total, there is a measurable energy saving, which is reflected in the WLTP measurement cycle, which is decisive for the official consumption data, with a range of up to 25 kilometers or 8 percent more. It can be assumed that the identical Opel Corsa-e and Mokka-e as well as the Citroën ë-C4 will receive this update soon. It has not yet been reported by the two Stellantis brands.
