The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo only races down virtual streets: the Stuttgart-based car manufacturer has designed an e-sports car exclusively for the Playstation racing game “Gran Turismo 7”. For this purpose, the car manufacturer worked with the Sony development studio Polyphony Digital.
For the Porsche designers, it was mainly attractive to design a car without the compromises that are necessary for series production, writes Porsche manager Michael Mauer in a press release. “A car that is designed exclusively for the virtual world opens up many exciting possibilities.” Such projects are conducive to creativity.
Porsche leaves technical restrictions outside of its virtual racing car. For example, there is no touchscreen on board, but a hologram display that sits above the steering wheel. Porsche emphasizes that the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo would be made from purely vegan materials – above all carbon and titanium.
350 digital kilometers per hour
The digital Porsche Vision Gran Turismo goes from zero to one hundred km / h in 2.1 seconds, and the manufacturer – in this case the designer – specifies the maximum speed of the all-wheel drive sports car as 350 km / h. The partnership with the Sony studio could help to get a younger target group excited about Porsche.
To the US-Magazin VentureBeat said Porsche manager Deniz Keskin, they worked on the digital racing car for three years. The designers behaved as if they were designing a real car. “It’s kind of a concept car for the year 2030. So it feels futuristic, but we also tried hard not to include anything completely unrealistic.”
“Gran Turismo 7” is the latest in Sony’s popular car simulation series. It should appear on March 4, 2022 for the Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. In the racing game you should be able to control 420 cars from different manufacturers.
