Portuguese centre-back Danilo Pereira suffered a broken three ribs in training, the team said on Sunday, casting doubt on his participation in the remainder of the World Cup.
The Portuguese press reported that the player is ruled out for the group stage and, should the European team reach the knockout stages, it is also doubtful that he will be in a position to jump onto the pitch.
Pereira was injured in Saturday’s training session.
Portugal lead Group H after beating Ghana 3-2 in their debut on Thursday. On Monday they will face Uruguay in their second group stage match at Lusail Stadium.
