Preview: New PC games coming February 2022

In February, the game year 2022 really gets going. With the action RPG “Elden Ring”, the fantasy strategy cracker “Total War: Warhammer III” and the action MMORPG “Lost Ark” there are three AAA titles worth playing – and that’s not all that the February has to offer.

Elden Ring

Around six years after the release of Dark Souls III, From Software plans to launch the long-awaited dark fantasy RPG Elden Ring on February 25, 2022. The first gameplay videos increase the anticipation, because what can be seen there makes the heart of every fan of the Soulsborne games beat faster. The player can expect tough bosses in a game world that could not be more diverse. Snowy mountains, green valleys, dark caves and apparently abandoned, once magnificent castles adorn the world of Elden Ring and invite you to explore, fight and loot. As usual, your own game character can be designed individually, which not only applies to the visual appearance, but also to the combat skills.

In addition to swords, axes and clubs, all sorts of spells can be used to fight against well-designed opponents. But there are also some features that you haven’t seen in the predecessors, but that you might have liked to see. Among other things, players can look forward to hidden dungeons, a map (!) and a huge open game world that can also be explored on your own horse. In addition, some battles can now be fought from horseback. Of course, the story isn’t bad either, because Game of Thrones author George RR Martin had his hand in the game, although it doesn’t impose itself on the player, but rather wants to be discovered with the help of hidden tips and cryptic dialogues.

Lost Ark

The Korean action MMORPG Lost Ark has been a smash hit in South Korea since 2019, and it’s also very popular in Russia and Japan, where the game was released a short time later. Lost Ark will now be released by Amazon Games in Europe on February 11, 2022 and can then also show in this country what the “Diablo Killer” can really do. There will be five classes at launch, each with between two and four subclasses. There are a total of 14 class combinations at the time of release, and there are now even 20 in Korea. At the beginning of the game, the classes warrior, magician, assassin, martial artist and gunner are available, which can then be specialized upon reaching level 10 depending on the preferred playstyle.

The basic game can be played for free, but there are several packages available for cash that offer improvements in terms of playing comfort as well as some cosmetic items, a companion, a mount and some in-game currency. In terms of looks and gameplay, Lost Ark promises to be an absolute hit, but it remains to be seen whether in-game purchases with real money can spoil this impression. As with the genre competition, Lost Ark also has an extensive endgame with dungeons, raids and PvP battles. At first glance, Lost Ark stands out from its action RPG counterparts primarily because of its particularly mature and action-packed combat system, as well as its unique and “polished” class abilities.

Total War: Warhammer III

Total War: Warhammer III, a real heavyweight in the fantasy strategy business for Windows, Mac and Linux gamers, will be released on February 17, 2022. After the great success of Total War: Warhammer II, Total War: Warhammer III is now set to successfully complete the trilogy. Right from the start, players have six playable factions for the story campaign and other modes. For pre-orderers who get the ogre DLC for free on the day of release, there are even seven factions. The other six races are the Kislev and the Great Empire of Cathay, and the Chaos factions of Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, and Slaanesh.

All factions have a wide variety of troops for long-range and melee ground combat, as well as aerial attacks. In addition, each race also has legendary commanders up its sleeve who, thanks to their unique skills, can take on entire companies on their own. The Total War: Warhammer III gameplay videos that have already been released promise extensive changes for the siege mode, which many fans consider to be the weak point of the otherwise popular game series. Among other things, different defense systems can now be built during the battle.
