Prince Harry Attends Father’s Coronation Alone
In a fairy tale ending to King Carlos III’s coronation, Prince William and his family accompanied the new monarch and his queen in a golden horse-drawn carriage to the palace. However, his youngest son, Prince Harry, was nowhere to be seen.
On the day of his father’s most important event, Harry arrived at Westminster Abbey alone, sat two rows behind his brother, and left alone after the service. As a result of relinquishing his royal duties, airing palace secrets, and distancing himself from his family, Harry was left isolated during the coronation.
Three weeks prior to the event, it was announced that Harry would attend alone, leaving behind his wife, Meghan, and their two children at their home in Southern California. The couple left royal life in 2020, citing the intense scrutiny and racist attitudes of the British press as their reason.
In his book, “Spare,” released in January, Harry revealed intimate details about his life, including his drug use and killing of enemies in Afghanistan. The book was especially critical of his stepmother, Camila, Duchess of Cornwall, accusing her of leaking private conversations to the media.
Buckingham Palace had announced that Harry and Prince Andrew would have no role in the coronation service. Prince Andrew resigned from his royal duties after revelations about his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Prince William played a prominent role, kneeling at his father’s feet and pledging allegiance before kissing him on the cheek. Prince George served as page boy, while Prince Harry wore a tailored black Dior suit, an honorary cross, and military medals.
During the event, all eyes were on Prince Harry, with tabloids even consulting professional lip readers to interpret what he was saying. Harry has vowed to make media reform part of his mission in life and has brought several lawsuits against publishers of British tabloids over a phone hacking scandal.
After the carriages left the church, Harry was seen waiting for a car and later detected at Heathrow airport. Meanwhile, King Charles III and Queen Camilla greeted the crowd from the balcony of Buckingham Palace, accompanied by Prince William and his family, and other members of the royal family.
