London — Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has announced that she has completed her chemotherapy treatment and is eager to return to work as she embarks on a “new phase of recovery” from cancer. Her statement, released by Kensington Palace on Monday, comes less than six months after she revealed her cancer diagnosis.
“As summer comes to an end, I cannot express how relieved I am to have completed my chemotherapy treatment. The past nine months have posed significant challenges for our family. Life can change unexpectedly, and we have had to navigate through these turbulent waters,” Kate reflected.
Although her chemotherapy is finished, Kate emphasized her commitment to fully recovering and will initially participate in a “light program” of public events and engagements.
“This cancer journey is filled with complexities and fears, particularly for those who are closest to you. It forces you to confront your vulnerabilities and, in turn, leads to a fresh perspective on life,” Kate shared.
She continued, “This experience has prompted William and me to reflect on and appreciate the simple yet vital aspects of life that many of us often overlook—primarily, the importance of love and being loved. My current focus is on staying cancer-free. While my chemotherapy has concluded, my healing journey is extensive, and I must tackle each day as it comes. Nevertheless, I look forward to engaging in a few more public events in the coming months. Despite the obstacles I’ve faced, I greet this new recovery phase with renewed hope and appreciation for life.”
In her statement, Kate expressed gratitude for the support she received from both the public and her family during her treatment. The royal family has not disclosed the specific type of cancer she was diagnosed with.
“William and I are immensely thankful for the support we’ve received and have drawn considerable strength from everyone helping us during this time. The kindness, empathy, and compassion we’ve encountered have been genuinely humbling. To all those on your own cancer journeys, I stand alongside you, hand in hand. From darkness, light can emerge, so let that light shine bright,” she stated.
The announcement was accompanied by a video and photos featuring Kate with her husband, William, and their three children. Kensington Palace noted that the video was filmed in Norfolk in August.
Earlier this year, Kate was diagnosed with cancer and kept a low profile while undergoing chemotherapy, which she described in March as “preventative.”
In July, she made a notable public appearance while continuing her treatment, attending the men’s final at Wimbledon, where she received a standing ovation from spectators as she took her seat in the Royal Box.
Prior to that, Kate also made her first significant public appearance during her cancer treatment by riding in a carriage with her family for the Trooping the Colour military parade in central London, in honor of her father-in-law, King Charles III’s official birthday.
It is expected that the Princess will return to a light schedule of duties while continuing to work from home.
