PS Plus remains above 46 million subscribers
The data of the 46.3 million subscribers to PlayStation Plus can be interpreted positively or negatively. The reality is twofold, however. On the one hand, 1.3 million subscribers have been lost during the past quarter, but this data is 1.3 million members over the same period in 2020, when 45 million faithful were registered.
Q1 (April 1 to June 30) is traditionally one of the most modest in terms of hardware and software distribution; although, in this case, during these months Sony has launched Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: A Dimension Apart, two great incentives for PlayStation 5 users. generational transition, with PS4 users gradually integrating into the PS5 ecosystem, there is another palpable evidence during the last twelve months, and that is that PS Plus is experiencing difficulties to maintain the growth rate that it did have in fiscal years 2018 and 2019, when quarterly growth was ostensibly better.
The goal, therefore, is now to keep the big projects that the company has underway for the next school year faithful before they reach the stores; names like Horizon Forbidden West, God of War (sequel), and Gran Turismo 7, which will target PS5 and PS4 audiences; therefore, they will be published to an installed base of more than 125 million players. It remains to be seen if PS Plus experiences another peak of growth through these launches.
