PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, popularly known as PUBG to dry, it is one of the most successful video games of recent years. It is the flagship of the genre battle royale, which today stands out thanks to its own names such as Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends, among others. The Krafton Inc. game owes its name to its creator, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, who today confirmed to the PC Gamer media his decision to leave the company and found his own development studio. This is one of the reasons why the title changed its name to PUBG: Battlegrounds.
“I am very grateful to all the folks at PUBG and Krafton Inc. for all the opportunities they have given me over the last four years. Now, I am excited to take the next step in my journey and focus on create the kind of experience I’ve been imagining for years”Says Greene, who has decided to name the studio referring to the pseudonym with which it all began: PlayerUnknown Productions, which already has its own official website. From it we can extract that its objective is “to explore the way to allow massive scale in open world games”.
Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene: it all started with him
The story of the Irish creative is very peculiar, as we all know his role as instigator of the battle royale genre thanks to his work on one of the most influential titles of the last decade, but Where are you from? Greene began to forge his successful path by doing exactly what he had always envisioned: creating the experience he had always dreamed of. The result? A mod for ARMA 2 based on Battle Royale, the Japanese film released in 2000. Later he worked on projects such as DayZ and H1Z1, until he finally found his place where he would be the main trigger for the exploding of the fashionable playable formula: PlayerUnknown’s Battleground. Or PUBG for friends.
