One of the great novelties of Pokémon Shiny Diamond and Shimmering Pearl, the remakes of the original Nintendo DS works on Nintendo Switch, is that they will have a Completely reimagined, expanded and improved subfloor. The so-called Underground Grottoes represent a significant change in the way we had to relate to this environment; not only for being infinitely bigger, but for everything we can do in it, especially if we want to complete the Pokédex. What are the Underground Grottoes in Pokémon Shiny Diamond and Shimmering Pearl
The Sinnoh region is very particular. So much so that we can tour the entire island, from top to bottom, in its subterranean depths. In the past, everything was a kind of rocky mine, a place to discover hidden objects and perform multiplayer tasks. Now, everything changes, expands and becomes gigantic.
At a certain point in the adventure, we will receive a Explorer Kit to visit the Underground Grottoes, which opens up a range of possibilities in the form of activities. From searching for treasures and fossils to building our Secret Base, which many will remember for Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald and Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire.
We can also visit the dens of Pokémon, places with their own ecosystem and biome with creatures that we can see in the environment —As in Let’s Go and Sword / Shield. Some of the Pokémon that we find in the Underground Caves will not appear on the Sinnoh routes, but only here. Lagoons, volcanic passages, frozen areas, forests …
Does this mean that some specific Legendary and Singular will be reserved for the Underground Grottoes? We don’t know yet, but it strongly reminds us of what we saw with the Ultra Thresholds in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for Nintendo 3DS.
And yes, all the additional tasks can be played in company through local communication or online on Nintendo Switch. For example, searching for fossils together or for valuables on the adventure.
