Processing American Visa Made Easier with Merida Consulate

Processing an American visa can be a daunting task, particularly for first-time applicants. However, renewing an American visa is the easiest route to take. The Embassy in Mexico City and the Monterrey consulate offer visa renewal dates until October 30, 2023, and December 26, 2023, respectively, but there is another consulate where appointments are almost immediate.

The State Department confirms that the waiting time to renew a B1/B2 American tourist visa at the Merida Consulate is only two days – yes, you read that right – only two days! Renewing your visa in Merida is the ideal option for those who need to make an urgent trip or are exempt from the American visa interview.

Please note that applicants who renew a visa in the same classification within 48 months of the expiration of their previous visa are eligible for an interview waiver – a benefit that will be in effect throughout 2023 and until further notice. Before the pandemic, only those whose visa had expired less than a year could renew their visa without an interview. If your visa has already exceeded this period, then this is the perfect time for you to enjoy the 48-month benefit.

For applicants renewing their visas without an interview, they only need to fill out the DS-160 form, appear at the CAS to update their photograph and biometric data. They no longer need to visit embassy or consulate facilities. This renewal without an interview is available for Mexican applicants with the following visas: FM2, FM3, BCC, BBBCV, B1/B2, C1/D, F, I, J, M, O, P, R, and TN. The consular staff will weigh the information provided in the DS-160 form to determine whether to grant an interview exemption. However, the Embassy of the United States in Mexico reserves the right to request an interview when they deem it necessary.

Please note that the waiting time for a first-time visa appointment in Merida is 619 calendar days; hence the short time only applies to renewals without interviews. Those in need of student visas will wait for three days while temporary work visas will take four days.

Moreover, the cost of the American visa is set to increase from May 30, 2023. Below is a breakdown of the expected increases:

– Tourist and business visa B1/B2: It will increase from $160 to $185.
– Visa E will increase from $160 to $185.
– H, L, O, P, Q, and R work visas will increase from $190 to $205.
– BCC for Mexican citizens over 15 years of age will increase from $160 to $185.

After filing the DS-160 application, you will receive payment instructions. If you pay on or before May 29, 2023, you will still be charged $160.
