Apple has extended a program that allows users to get replacement devices for certain AirPods Pro problems even after the warranty period has ended by one year. That goes out of one Support document updated this month emerged. The group launched the repair or replacement program in October 2020.
“Small percentage,” says Apple
“Apple has found that a small percentage of AirPods Pro can experience sound problems. Affected devices were manufactured before October 2020,” the company said at the time. It could lead to “crackling or electrostatic noises” which “intensify in noisy surroundings, during training or when speaking on the phone”.
This happens with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), the main innovation in the plugs. There are still problems with certain types of noise such as road or aircraft noise, the hardware then loses the bass sound or the amplification of background noise in transparency mode.
A year more help
Apple initially limited the exchange of defective plugs to two years from the date of sale – regardless of the usual (and in Europe also two years) warranty. With the extension to three years there is now more security. Anyone who purchased the devices when they started selling in October 2019 will be supplied until October 2022. Apparently it happens that the error occurs later as well. According to Apple, devices built after October 2020 will not be affected.
Anyone who thinks they have made the mistake should make an appointment at an Apple store or with an Apple service provider. Normally the exchange should be done within a short time, especially the Apple Stores usually have exchange hardware in the store. It should be noted that Apple always only exchanges the defective plug, but not the charging case. This is then coupled with the replacement devices.
