Ricky Martin Faces Legal Issue: Former Manager Sues Him

What a way to start the month of July for Ricky Martin. After being accused of domestic violence in Puerto Rico, the interpreter will also have to face a lawsuit in Los Angeles filed by a former collaborator.

Rebecca Drucker, who worked as the Puerto Rican singer’s manager from 2014 to 2018 and from May 2020 to April 2022, is demanding three million dollars in unpaid commissions from the artist.

According to information from the New York Post, which took up People en Español, the woman alleges that she “saved Ricky Martin’s career” from the consequences of his “reckless indiscretions.” “He did it not only because he was his manager, but also because he thought Martin was his dear friend,” the brief filed by his lawyers reads.

According to the 15-page document, Drucker allegedly helped the performer get ahead in a world of “recording contracts, tours and sponsorship deals, and other professional endeavors” in periods of the Puerto Rican singer’s life that the woman called “times of chaos,” according to People en Español.

In the same document, Drucker explained that he left his position as a representative because he worked in “a toxic environment” and alluded to a “particularly ugly” incident that occurred in Dubai in 2018, in which Ricky Martin and José Vega, choreographer and right hand of the artist, were involved.

After months during which Martin allegedly asked for his return, as he explained in the complaint, the former manager returned to work with him in 2020 to give his employment relationship a new chance. However, he said he found that the life of the five-time Latin Grammy winner was “messy.”

“Although Martin’s career has flourished since he rehired Rebecca as his manager in May 2020, she was forced to deal with a litany of Martin’s personal problems, such as those she had with the nanny she hired to care for her children, for non-payment of taxes and her substance abuse. among other matters,” the lawsuit specified.

Likewise, Rebecca Drucker said that the singer refused “totally and maliciously” to pay her millionaire commissions that he owes for the contract they established in their employment relationship. “With Rebecca by his side, Martin earned millions of dollars and therefore owes him substantial commissions,” the document states.

So far, neither Ricky Martin nor his legal team have spoken out on this other legal issue in which he has been involved. It was recently announced that Puerto Rican authorities issued a restraining order against the interpreter of ‘Livin’ la vida loca’ for alleged domestic violence, which he said would face “the responsibility that characterizes me.”
