Ryan Gosling channels his “Ken-energy” to play Ken in “Barbie” movie

Ryan Gosling is not letting skeptics get in his way as he takes on the role of Ken in the upcoming “Barbie” movie. When the first trailer was released, social media users debated whether the 42-year-old actor was too old to play the role.

“If people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are plenty of other Kens to play with,” Gosling responded in a recent interview with GQ. He finds it funny that people are suddenly concerned about Ken’s career when for 60 years, Ken’s job has been the beach, which nobody seemed to take issue with.

Despite the naysayers, Gosling is excited to play the role and admits to feeling like Ken’s manager. His motivation to take on the role comes from his two daughters who play with Barbie and Ken dolls.

Female characters take the spotlight in “Barbie”

Directed by Greta Gerwig, “Barbie” will bring female characters to the forefront of the story. Margot Robbie will star as Barbie alongside Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, and America Ferrera, among others.

The film will hit theaters on July 21, and Gosling is thrilled to be a part of a project that tells Ken’s story and brings female empowerment to the big screen.
