In the latest update from Seattle, it appears that running back Ken Walker III is doubtful for the upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins due to an ongoing oblique injury. This injury had previously sidelined him during the Seahawks’ Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots.
Despite the uncertain status for this Sunday, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald expressed optimism regarding Walker’s return in Week 4. The team is set to play the Detroit Lions on “Monday Night Football,” which could provide Walker with an extra day to recover.
The Seahawks will also be missing at least two other key players in their game against Miami. Outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu and right tackle George Fant have both been ruled out due to knee injuries. Additionally, inside linebacker Jerome Baker is listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury.
Nwosu is slated to miss a third consecutive game as he continues to recover from the MCL sprain he sustained in the preseason finale. Macdonald reported that Nwosu is making significant progress and is optimistic about his chances of returning to the field next week.
Walker, who suffered his injury in the fourth quarter of Seattle’s season opener, did not participate in the win over the Patriots last Sunday. However, he was limited in practice on Friday, marking his first practice since sustaining the injury. “Progress,” Macdonald remarked about Walker’s status. “Not looking great right now for the game, but he’s working hard to get better.”
With Walker out, rookie Zach Charbonnet stepped up as the starter against the Patriots, taking nearly all the offensive snaps—playing in 67 out of 70. He put forth an impressive performance, amassing 69 yards and scoring a touchdown on 19 carries. No other running back on the Seahawks roster received a carry or target during the game.
As it stands, Kenny McIntosh serves as Seattle’s No. 3 running back. Meanwhile, the team has George Holani and Brittain Brown on the practice squad, although Holani is dealing with an ankle injury, which could impact depth at the position.
Macdonald also provided encouraging updates regarding other players on the injury report. Outside linebacker Boye Mafe, safety K’Von Wallace, and wide receiver/kickoff returner Laviska Shenault Jr. are all listed as questionable but are expected to participate in Sunday’s game. Mafe, who was limited in practice earlier in the week, appeared to be on the mend. Macdonald noted, “He’s trending positively. He looked good today, so we’ll keep an eye on him in the coming days, but things are looking good with Boye.”
Two additional players, outside linebacker Derick Hall and tight end Pharaoh Brown, are also questionable for the game against the Dolphins.
This week’s developments add intrigue to the Seahawks’ upcoming matchup, as they navigate player injuries ahead of their contest. Fan engagement will be high, especially with Coach Macdonald’s optimistic outlook on several key players possibly returning to form.
