The Chrome web browser has not gotten out of the negative headlines for months: Attackers are now targeting the browser again and are exploiting two security holes. If you surf with Chrome, you should therefore install the current version as soon as possible.

As indicated by a warning message, Google has the version that is protected against the attacks 94.0.4606.71 released for Linux, macOS and Windows. It is currently not known which systems are in the focus of the attackers.

Specifically, there are two security vulnerabilities (CVE-2021-37975 “high“, CVE-2021-37976 “middle“) The starting points of the attacks. The first loophole concerns the JavaScript Engine V8. According to the scarce information available, successful exploitation leads to a memory error (use after free). In many cases, attackers can push malicious code onto systems in such a state. The third Vulnerability (CVE-2021-37974 “high“) in Safe Browsing could also leave malicious code on the computer.

The web browser updates automatically under macOS and Windows. If the update is available, a message usually appears in the upper right corner of the Chrome window for a restart to complete the update. If this is not the case, you can check the installed version by clicking on the three vertically arranged dots and Help / About Google Chrome. This process also triggers the download of updates.

Since the beginning of 2021, Google has already closed several zero-day gaps in Chrome. These are loopholes that attackers are already exploiting, but for which there are no security patches at the time of the attacks.
