Smartphones are probably the best way to stay in contact with family and friends: Write a quick invitation to have a coffee, watch the latest video from your grandchildren, post the pictures from your last vacation to the family group and, at the same time, stay up to date the news app. And help is quickly available in an emergency. But small font, filigree touchscreen operation, often incomprehensible interfaces and complicated settings can overwhelm older people in particular and create more fear than desire for the powerful devices.

This is exactly what smartphones specifically aimed at seniors want to do better. They attract with a simple and easier to read and use interface, which makes it easier to find frequently used applications and settings. The devices can be used just as universally as conventional smartphones, but try to pass this on in doses and take the user by the hand more closely. In addition, they sometimes offer hardware functions that are not available in normal models or are only inadequately available – such as a dedicated emergency call button or simply a conventional headset connection.

We took a look at what the three devices are particularly good at and whether they are fast enough for everyday use.
