The Showtime TV series Shameless is one of the long-running shoes that has lasted for a whopping ten years and aired 11 seasons. The show revolves around the story of Frank Gallagher, a proud single father of six smart and independent children. Sadly, their lives become a little challenging because of their alcoholic dad. Against all odds, the kids find ways to help their father.
The comedy-drama television series has been developed by John Wells. The show became a big hit and received an 8.6/10 rating on IMDb. Its 11th season was announced in January 2020 and aired in December of the same year. The season had a vague ending, making many fans positive the series would run longer.
So, will Shameless be renewing itself for the next season or not? Know all the updates in this article.
When will Shameless 12 be Aired on TV?
Unfortunately, the finale of the 11th season was the last episode of the celebrated series. The final episode aired on the 11th of April, 2021, after which Showtime announced that this would be the final season of Shameless. It was received very well by the audience, and they were hoping that against all odds, the makers would renew it. But the makers do not have any plan of renewing the show, even in the form of a spin-off.
According to the showrunner, John Wells:
“There’s nothing planned. But never say never. It’s a crazy world out there with people reviving shows and characters. But we get to tell numerous great stories with these people and wonderful actors, writers, and directors. If we never tell another story with them, I think we did a lot that I am proud of and that we are all proud of. You never know. But we are surely not planning anything.”
He further added,
“We would have loved to continue making the show because I love making the show, and you have heard me say that a bunch of times. In my mind, Lip gets a motorcycle shop, settles in, loses the neighborhood, and becomes the new patriarch of that crazy family. And Ian and Mickey have a kid. But you can fill in the blanks however you want to fill the blanks as a viewer. Whatever you think is right!”

What Happened at the End of Season 11?
In the end, the fates of all the primary characters, except Frank, were left open-ended. Frank dies in the hospital alone due to complications resulting from Covid-19 and alcoholic dementia. His kids are not aware that their father has passed away.
On the other hand, there is a break-up of almost all the family members. Everyone gets out and starts a new life. Ian and Mickey go shopping for the furniture for their new house while Debbie finds a new life. Gallagher’s house ends, but the family doesn’t.
Talking about the open-ending, Kev and V are at the Alibi celebrating Ian and Mickey’s wedding anniversary. Ian and Mickey think about kids, but it is still not known if they are planning to start their own family. Kev and V head to Louisville, but the fate of the Alibi and Carl’s involvement is not revealed. Carl’s former fling, Tish, shows up pregnant. There is no answer to whether Carl is its father or not.
The unambiguous ending of the finale disappointed the fans.

Emmy Rossum Was Not Allowed to Audition
The producer did not think that Emmy Rossum had what it took to be one of the protagonists. By taking a look at her previous works, they thought she was too pretty, clean-cut, and glamorous to channel the role of Fiona. At first, they refused to even let her audition, for they were convinced she could never land that part. But the actress was not taking a no for an answer. She made her tapes and sent them anyway. When the producers saw it, they quickly changed their minds.

Do you know that the house Gallaghers is a real home in the Chicago neighborhood? It is authentic, and you can track it down to pay a visit. Many die-hard fans of the show have already visited the property to explore it and captured pictures, giving it a tourist destination appeal.

Justin Chatwin Ate Tuna Before Intimate Scenes
Out of the many bizarre things that actors do while shooting, this one has to be mentioned.

At first, the role of Frank Gallagher was given to Woody Harrelson. But eventually, William H. Macy took it. Woody did not play the character because the TV air date was delayed many times.
Canaryville is a Real Place
Shameless is set in the area of Chicago called Canaryville, located on the south side. The place is a real setting. However, the show is not shot there. The primary shooting of the series took place in Los Angeles. It made many people upset that despite a real place, the makers had to shoot the series in a different location. However, the makers had their own logical reasons for not going to Chicago and shooting the series comfortably in Los Angeles.
