One could confidently describe the Honda e as an IMAX cinema on wheels. The entire area between the A-pillars is wallpapered with displays under the windshield. There is often talk of “pillar-to-pillar displays”; in the case of Honda’s small car, we see it so consistently in a series vehicle for the first time.
At the outer ends of the dashboard there are two 8-inch displays that act as exterior mirrors, slightly offset and slightly facing the driver. Where there are normally mirrors on the outside of each door, there is a camera instead. The virtual mirrors can be adjusted with a small joystick in the cladding of the driver’s door, whereupon the camera section changes on the displays.
Anyone who thinks that more is not possible will experience the opposite when looking in the rearview mirror: It is also a display – at least in part. It is a semi-transparent mirror. In normal operation you can see the display of a rear-facing camera in the rear. The image size, detail and brightness can be adjusted using buttons on the underside. The image area is always larger than that of a real mirror. In other words: Everything looks around one and a half meters closer than in reality. The mirror can be dimmed like a classic rearview mirror by tilting it backwards. The display switches off and you can see a real reflection.
