Sony Electronics has presented its new series of high-end televisions designed to take advantage of the characteristics of the next-generation console from the Japanese firm, PlayStation 5. As in the past, Sony’s consumer electronics division is working on a series of panels that can maximize imaging capabilities and console sound. Its name is the range BRAVIA XR TV.
Specifically, we talk about the models Z9J, A90J, A80J, X95J and X90J, which will soon be added to the television catalog and which can be recognized by the “Perfect for PlayStation 5 for BRAVIA XR”. Now, how will this product range differentiate itself from other multi-thousand euro televisions from the competition? With competitors like Samsung and LG betting squarely on QLED and OLED, respectively, Sony will offer Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. The image of Gran Turismo 7 serves as an example of such automatic Tone Mapping of the high dynamic range of the image.
Likewise, the new BRAVIA XR televisions will be able to reach up to 120 FPS in 4K resolution (they will therefore have HDMI 2.1 output) in compatible video games in exchange for 6.0ms of input lag in the Z9J model and 8.5ms in the rest of the mentioned models. Sony points out that an “extraordinary smoothness and responsiveness in the shot” will be achieved for video games that require that precision on the screen.
Sony introduces televisions designed for PS5
- Auto HDR Tone Mapping– Will allow HDR mapping to be done instantly when doing initial PS5 setup. Upon detecting the TV, the BRAVIA XR will take care of selecting the best HDR setting. The result will be none other than better color rendering and higher quality in high contrast scenes.
- Auto Genre Picture Mode: to detect if the user is playing or watching movies or other content. This selection of automatic image mode will seek to minimize input lag in video games or the most convenient configuration for the reproduction of series in streaming, etc. It will change the approach to processing the image so that it is always the most expressive in every circumstance.
“In partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment, we are delighted to offer our customers new features to enhance their gaming experiences,” said Tyler Ishida, Vice President, Consumer Business Group, Sony Electronics Inc. “Best-in-class picture quality , a low input lag and the incorporation of Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode, We can confidently say that BRAVIA XR TVs are ‘perfect for PlayStation 5’”.
Its premiere is expected in the main markets from 2022. Prices and availability to be confirmed.
