The latest episode of the Apple podcast from Mac & i is dedicated to a problem that has probably plagued all of us at some point and that annoys some people again and again: the storage space is running out. While you can easily book additional volume with iCloud – which also has limits and can be expensive – the hands of users of iPhones, iPads and younger Macs are usually tied because their storage cannot be expanded later.
Stephan Ehrmann asks his colleagues Wolfgang Reszel and Sebastian Trepesch what can be done to find and eliminate space wasters, what to think of Apple’s recommendations in the system settings and which tools can still help. The editors explain where to look to find the big chunks and that sometimes deleting isn’t necessarily a good idea. It’s also about uninstallers, huge backup files, tidying up in the iCloud and also about alternative photo cloud services.
You can read detailed practical tips on the subject of “gaining storage space” in Mac & i 6/2021. The tips for freeing up storage space on the iPhone and iPad and for finding space wasters on the Mac are also available on heise+.
