Sugar production in Brazil increases in the second half of August and ethanol production decreases

The center-south region of Brazil produced 3.13 million tons of sugar in the second half of August, 5.77% more than in the same period of the previous year and more than what the market expected, said on Tuesday the Unica industrial group in a note.

44.02 million tons of sugar cane were crushed in the period, 1.79% more than last year, and more cane was used for sugar production than in the previous season, a proportion of 48.4% compared to 46.4%.

Consequently, there was less cane to produce ethanol, whose production fell by 1.23%, to 2,250 million liters.
