It has been almost three years since the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but there is still some content in the bedroom. The Fighter Pass Vol. 2, a paid season pass that includes bonus characters, you are about to complete the entire grid of fighters. After the arrival of Pyra and Mythra, both from Xenoblade 2, it is the turn of Kazuya Mishima himself, one of the protagonists of the Tekken fighting saga. In a streaming presentation, director Masahiro Sakurai has shown the character in action.
Kazuya will be available from next June 30 at a price of 5.99 euros if you buy it separately. It will be accompanied by its own stage, Mishima Dojo, whose roof and walls can be destroyed.
The developer recalled that many have asked him to incorporate Kazuya, but it has not been easy at all, since the style of play of both sagas is completely different. “They have in common that you hit your opponent to defeat him, but their genre and design are like night and day,” he says.
Sakurai has not wanted to enter the debate of whether or not Super Smash Bros is a fighting title, “but Tekken is fundamentally different,” he adds. Bandai Namco’s work is characterized by “Measure the distance between characters and know where to hit ”. In addition, he divides the attacks into high, medium and low, while his game is more “of location”, to take advantage of the levels and distances: “The safe and danger areas of a fighter vary depending on where he is located.”
One of Kazuya’s own attributes is the ability to use his demonic power, a family inheritance that is also used in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. “His normal attacks are as faithful to Tekken as possible, and For airs, Smash and specials, take advantage of the Devil Gene”. What are those special attacks? Normal special, Devil Blaster, which fires lightning at high speed; Side Special, Devil Fist, a quick punch that cuts through the enemy; upward special, Devil Wings, a simple move that allows the character to rise high; Special downward, Heaven’s Door slams the enemy to the ground. In Rage mode, Kazuya will hit much harder, although there will be other moves like Rage Drive.
As for the Mii fighters, they have been announced various collaborations with other sagas. Lloyd, from Tales of Symphonia, will be able to fight against characters like Dante, from Devil May Cry, Shantae or Blood of Dragon, from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
